This summer, the Miami Beach Classical Music Festival (MMF) is once again transforming the cultural landscape of South Florida—only this time, it’s going further. From May 31 through August 31, the MMF returns with its most ambitious season to date: a series of free outdoor concerts, immersive opera performances, and the launch of Miami Beach’s first permanent immersive theater inside the historic Temple Emanu-El.
Founded in 2013 by conductor and artistic director Michael Rossi, MMF was created as a platform for elite young classical musicians to train and perform alongside world-class faculty, while giving the community access to innovative, professional-grade productions. Twelve years later, the festival has grown into one of Miami Beach’s most dynamic summer traditions, merging high art with accessibility—and now, with cutting-edge technology.
The 2025 season begins with a powerful visual and musical statement: the Miami Beach Pride Concert, held May 31 and June 1 at Ocean Drive and 12th Street. As the MMF orchestra takes the stage at 8:30 p.m. each night, the iconic façade of the Tides building will be transformed through projection mapping, casting Pride-themed visuals into the evening sky. The concert is a collaboration between MMF, Miami Beach Pride, and the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau, and serves as both a celebration and a reminder of the city’s enduring commitment to inclusivity through the arts.
On July 4, Lummus Park becomes the setting for MMF’s annual Independence Day concert, in partnership with the City of Miami Beach and the Ocean Drive Association. Beginning at 8:30 p.m., the MMF Symphony Orchestra and Alumni Division singers will perform a spirited program of American classics—from the Armed Forces Salute to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture—culminating in a fireworks display over the ocean. Guests are encouraged to dine alfresco or bring their own picnic setup for one of the most striking cultural events of the season.
Perhaps the most ambitious leap forward this season is MMF’s unveiling of Miami Beach’s first permanent immersive theater at Temple Emanu-El. Through 360-degree projection mapping, the grand ballroom will become a fully transformative environment for storytelling through sound, light, and movement.
At the heart of this new venue is the Immersive Galactic Symphony—a multimedia concert experience blending live orchestration with digital illusion. Beginning July 26 and running through August 31, performances will be held each weekend, offering a futuristic take on classical music that invites the audience into orbit—both literally and imaginatively.
MMF’s operatic slate offers a compelling range of classical masterworks and modern intrigue. Mozart’s beloved The Marriage of Figaro takes the stage on July 12 and 13, performed in Italian with the MMF Opera Institute, combining timeless farce with elegant vocalism.
Next, Dvořák’s ethereal Rusalka—a fairytale opera featuring the haunting “Song to the Moon”—arrives July 18 and 19, portraying a water nymph’s bittersweet descent into humanity.
Closing the operatic series is The Ghosts of Versailles, performed July 25 and 27. This inventive “opera within an opera” features Figaro once again, this time reimagined in the court of Marie Antoinette, blending humor, fantasy, and 18th-century intrigue into a theatrical spectacle.
All opera performances will take place at Temple Emanu-El, the architectural jewel of Miami Beach now repurposed as a bold cultural destination.
On July 10, MMF’s Conducting Institute presents its annual Conductor’s Symphony Concert, where emerging talents trained under leading faculty take to the podium to lead works by Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. The concert offers audiences a glimpse into the next generation of classical music leadership—an ethos that has driven MMF’s mission from the beginning.
Beyond ticketed and marquee events, MMF’s Promenade Concert Series continues on Sundays starting June 29, with additional performances on July 6, 13, and 20. These outdoor concerts serve as an accessible, family-friendly entry point for audiences new to classical music, set against the casual charm of Miami Beach.
Produced with the support of the Miami Beach Visitor and Convention Authority and the City of Miami Beach, the MMF summer season is a city-wide collaboration that uses classical music as a bridge—between generations, cultures, and disciplines.
