Sotto Sopra Brings A Taste Of Northern Italy To The Hamptons

Resident Staff

By W. A. Muller

Northern Italian eatery Sotto Sopra in Amagansett has re-opened its doors for the 2014 summer season, inviting guests on a culinary journey that highlights the region's traditional flavors and cooking methods. Under the direction of Managing Partner Rose Evangelista, Sotto Sopra has quickly become one of the most sought-after restaurants on the East End, known for its frequent celebrity guests, relaxing atmosphere, exceptional service, and fresh, flavorful fare.

Sotto Sopra's expertly crafted menu developed by Executive Chef Josh Savi (formerly of Restaurant Patrick Guilabud in Dublin), takes advantage of the restaurant's wood-burning oven to offer up freshly baked breads, crispy Italian style pizza and whole roasted fish such as Branzino al Forno (whole-roasted Italian Sea Bass with charred tomato aioli). Delicious fresh salads such as Insalata di Formaggio di Capra e Melone (goat cheese, melon and prosciutto salad, topped with candied pistachio), antipastos such as Robiola Crostini (warm crostini topped with Robiola cheese, grilled figs and spiced walnuts, drizzled with orange vinaigrette), and impeccably flavored pasta and rice dishes including Risotto Granchio (saffron Aborio rice cooked all'onda, with crabmeat and spring onions), round out the menu along with classic "Bisteccheria" options such as Filet Mignon, Veal Porterhouse and Lamb Chops.

To complement the cuisine, Sotto Sopra offers an extensive wine list, as well as a menu of delightful signature cocktails including the Rose Orchid (Death's Door Gin, St. Germain, prosecco, grapefruit and hibiscus), Sotto 75 (Farmer's Organic Gin, St. Germain, champagne, blueberry and lime juice) and South Fork (Jameson Irish Whiskey, mint, cucumber, lime, and orange juice).

Sotto Sopra's traditional cuisine is contrasted by its modern décor, creating a thoughtful, warm aesthetic. Drenched in sunlight, Sotto Sopra's airy interior features an open-style design concept, cedar-paneled walls, sleek black and wood table and chairs, industrial style lighting and fixtures, and bright white color accents. Toward the rear of the restaurant, Sotto Sopra's floor-to-ceiling windows open up to reveal a charming outdoor patio and lush garden.

The Hamptons dining hotspot has become a favorite among celebrities including Alec Baldwin, Cameron Diaz, Naomi Watts, Mike Myers, John Slattery, Michael Kors and David Yurman. •
